Toyota RAV4 Gets New PHEV Variant with Extended EV Range and Power Boost
The Toyota RAV4 lineup has been further strengthened with the introduction of a new Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) variant, offering improved performance, extended electric range, and enhanced practicality.
At the heart of the new RAV4 PHEV is a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine combined with Toyota’s latest-generation plug-in hybrid system. This upgraded setup delivers a maximum system output of approximately 329 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful variants in the RAV4 lineup.
One of the most significant improvements comes in the electric driving range. The new model is capable of traveling up to around 150 kilometers in EV mode on a full charge, a substantial increase compared to the previous generation’s range of approximately 95 kilometers. This enhancement allows drivers to handle most daily commutes using electric power alone, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
In addition to performance upgrades, Toyota has also improved the vehicle’s external power supply capabilities. With the “HV power supply mode,” the RAV4 PHEV can deliver electricity even when the battery is low by utilizing fuel. When fully charged and fueled, the system can supply power for up to approximately 6.5 days at a consumption level of 400W. In power supply priority mode, this duration can extend to nearly 7 days, making it especially useful during emergencies or outdoor activities.
The new RAV4 PHEV will be available in multiple trims, including the premium “Z” grade and the newly introduced “GR SPORT” variant, which adds a more dynamic and sporty design along with performance-focused enhancements.
In Japan, the starting price for the Toyota RAV4 PHEV is expected to be around ¥6,000,000 (tax included), positioning it competitively within the mid-size SUV segment while offering a strong balance of efficiency, performance, and advanced hybrid technology.
With these updates, the RAV4 continues to evolve as a versatile SUV, combining everyday usability with cutting-edge electrification features.
